WIP Wednesday: Flitting is Winning
I ain’t gonna lie. I didn’t get much writing done in the first 2 months of 2011. Call it post-holiday blues; chalk it up to a case of wanderlust after going to Texas at the end of January. Whatever. I’m over it.
The past month, I’ve gotten back into my daily routine. I’ve stopped wallowing when my stories aren’t going as planned. I even manage to cut the umbilical cord of social networking while writing from time to time. Amazing what a little self-discipline can do for one’s word count.
You see, I’m the type of gal who, when TOLD what to do, I tend to wanna rebel. Maybe it’s the Miss Write side of me. Sure, Miss Write is all about the tough love, shut-up-and-get-on-with-it-already school of thinking. But she also isn’t opposed to breaking the rules.
So, what did it take to rock my word count? Flitting. Instead of whinging and moaning when I got stuck, I moved onto another WIP. Tried & true method of mine when I find myself slacking. Keeps me on my toes. And makes writing fun again.
Because, really. Isn’t it supposed to be fun? No? Then you're not doing it right!
NEW FEATURE TIME!
I’m going to post a little snippet from my latest WIP – either here or on Twitter. I’ve dubbed it….. ~drumroll please~ The Daily WIP-pet! Get it? Snippet? From my WIP? Forget it.
Here is today’s sampling:
It didn't matter that he had 25 years on Jasper. Barclay's gruff manor made him akin to a lunging pitbull, which only solidified his reputation as the bad cop to Jasper's good
Current WIPS:
- sending off WIP 1 to beta readers…today!
- final polish of WIP 2
- working on WIP 3 (1st of my soon-to-be self-published shorts)
Looking forward to getting to work on that WIP that I dreamed up a few weeks ago (aka the Bright Shiny)
Fellow WIP Wednesday posse:

- Aaron Polson: WIP Wednesday – Done For Now
- Cate Gardner: WIP Wednesday -Time, Heartbreak & Exploding Monkeys
- Katey Taylor: WIP Wednesday is like having a nervous breakdown then getting shot full of arrows

Nice! I like the daily The Daily WIP-pet! I tried posting lines form current works here and there, but unfortunately, I don’t have enough writing going on to keep it up. Must change that.
Yes! I’ve had to remind myself to “unplug” during writing time, too. I like the new feature. Enjoy WIPing it.
Hopefully people enjoy the snippets – trying to find an enticing one is half the fun!
Uh, yeah, sure it’s fun. Absolutely.
After it’s over. (It’s like reading Dickens that way.)
No, I couldn’t live without it, I wouldn’t do anything else. I like your flitting idea–I wish I could do it. It does sound really amusing!
It’s either amusing or I have ADHD
I’m about to go on a social networking break (or so I keep telling myself). I need to flit more. I sit, I stare, I rage, I get nowhere.
It’s a fine art, flitting. I think you can master it though. Good luck on the break!
