AN EXCERPT

It took a few moments, but when his eyes adjusted, David could make out half a dozen translucent caterpillar-like shapes as tall as him. They hung from large meat hooks bolted to metal grating along the ceiling. Overhead lightbulbs cast each one in an eerie red glow.
Next to the door, David noticed a red phone bolted above an entry panel. He raised his hand and pressed the key card to the panel before he even thought about it. A sharp buzz-click sounded. The vacuum-seal released and the door popped open. David nudged it with his boot. He wasn’t sure why but he held his breath as he crossed the threshold and edged forward.
