ABOUT IN TOKEN AND PLEDGE

A cautionary tale for those who covet. Be careful what you ask of the cunning woman, lest it come true.

PUBLICATION DETAILS

Stories featuring artists, crafters, DIYers, and more. The writers in this anthology came up with creative takes on the theme. There are twenty-one stories in this book, including several flash fiction pieces. Some are horror-light, some are more devious and dark. There is even a touch of the gross-out, and a hint of humour in certain tales found here. From quiet horrors to chilling nightmares these tales give new meaning to being creative.

AN EXCERPT

Past the forest of crooked trees, the cunning woman waits for those, like me, who covet.
Her cottage crouches in the deep woods, encircled by a scattering of mushrooms that poke through mouldy moss like baubles tucked away for safekeeping.

Gingerly, I make my approach, but my footsteps set off a congregation of crows in the branches overhead. The females sit content in their stick nests, fashioned from short twigs and cushioned with grasses to bind them. But the males with their watchful eyes follow me, warning with their throaty calls.

READER REVIEWS

Who would have thought that something as simple and restful as hobbies, arts and crafts could be so dangerous? Even the simplest thing like crocheting, painting, or even bead collecting, can lead to horror or even destruction.

You can read each of the stories here in a handful of minutes. Time you might have better spent on some hobby because you now know that you might never go back to them with the same appreciation you once had.

Please don’t say I didn’t warn you…!
