PUBLICATION DETAILS

Welcome to the Gothic realm.

Alex Woodroe has passionately and carefully curated a powerful volume of gothic stories, written by an amazing and diverse group of contemporary writers.

Within the pages of “A Quaint and Curious Collection of Gothic Tales,” the reader will encounter stories of pain and suffering, ghosts, curses, unspoken secrets, greed, murder, and one of the creepiest collections of dolls ever seen.

Come on in; enter the parlor, find a place by the fire, and experience the beautiful, dark, and occasionally heartbreaking stories told by the authors as they continue the Gothic tradition pioneered by the likes of Shelley, Radcliffe, Brontë and others.

AN EXCERPT

If what Samuel Winslow did was so bad, surely the voices of the dead would diminish. But they lingered around him in all their splendour, so he built them a place worthy of their shine.

Up in the attic, on an old curio shelf stretching from floor to ceiling in a room no bigger than a broom closet, Samuel keeps a shrine filled with bottles of all shapes and colors. He tries his best not to go up there too much, to prevent all that magic from fading too soon. But when the night stretches out like a lonely highway with nothing so much as a whisper for company, it fills him with an ache so lonesome he just needs to hear a voice to soothe him.

READER REVIEWS

Like with most anthologies, the range and scope of the shorts on offer was wide, and the quality of the stories high – I was impressed with the editing, the polishing, the packaging. This is an anthology that is, very rightly, going to receive a lot of love. What the Dead Whisper to the Living by Mary Rajotte, is a wonderful short, something almost reminiscent of Gaiman in its concept.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Each of the stories in the book has a distinct flavor. This was a diverse and interesting collection, and I had a difficult time choosing my favorites. I could have listed a handful more, but I decided to control myself. This book is a treasure trove of talent. One of my top 10 stories is “What the Dead Whisper to the Living” by Mary Rajotte
