And although I didn\u2019t exactly rack up a huge list of publishing credits this year either, I did manage to hit up more markets, thanks to taking part in <strong>Write1Sub1<\/strong>. I didn&#8217;t write 12 new stories, but I did sub to 12 different markets &#8211; so yay!<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, all I can do is vow to improve my output next year, and here are a few of the things on my agenda:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>CHALLENGES<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I\u2019ll be trying <a href=\"http:\/\/www.write1sub1.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Write1Sub1<\/a> Monthly again (i.e. 12 new short stories, 1\/month)<\/li>\n<li>A new challenge I decided to take up &#8211; the <a href=\"https:\/\/millionwordchallenge.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">2013 Million Word Challenge<\/a>! (1 million words total for the year &#8211; it sounds daunting but it\u2019s only 2740 words per day)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>BOOKS<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Edit the 2 novels I wrote last year, and a 3rd one I wrote in 2008<\/li>\n<li>Write a novella (which currently sits as a 6-times-rejected short story on my hard drive \ud83d\ude42 )<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>OTHER FICTION<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Write &amp; publish an online serial<\/li>\n<li>Write another Special Project!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And&#8230;..that\u2019s just my fiction!<\/p>\n<p>I have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.outstandingink.com\" target=\"_blank\">Outstanding Ink<\/a> to run, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.misswrite.net\" target=\"_blank\">Miss Write<\/a> to rejuvinate, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloodybookish.com\" target=\"_blank\">Bloody Bookish<\/a> to keep up with. Obviously, it\u2019s all a labour of love!<\/p>\n<p>It seems a little nuts, writing all that out, but I do have a few tricks up my sleeve:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Google Calendar<\/strong> is my friend! (i have daily, weekly and monthly tasks scheduled to keep me on track)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.productiveflourishing.com\/free-planners\/\" target=\"_blank\">Productive Flourishing<\/a> planners are a god-send (I use the Monthly Action Planner, Blog Post Planner &amp; Calendar)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.blackobelisksoftware.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Liquid Story Binder<\/a> to do my writing &amp; keep all my notes organized<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/evernote.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Evernote<\/a>, to keep track of my million-and-one story ideas<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dropbox<\/a> to automatically sync\/back-up my work online and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.2brightsparks.com\/syncback\/\" target=\"_blank\">SyncBack<\/a> to sync my files on my laptop\/USB key<\/li>\n<li>This <a href=\"http:\/\/margaretmcgaffeyfisk.com\/writing\/excel_templates\/2012writingstats.xls\" target=\"_blank\">Daily\/Monthly\/Yearly Excel Spreadsheet<\/a> to track my writing output<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I know, it all sounds idyllic, but I burn out, get buried under work and lose momentum like everyone else. But having these tools in place helps me to get back on track if (okay, let&#8217;s face it&#8230;..<strong><em>when<\/em><\/strong>) that happens.<\/p>\n<p>So &#8211; that\u2019s that. I\u2019m spending the next few days going over ideas, checking my calendar, looking at open calls, scheduling projects, prioritizing &#8211; and then it\u2019s time to hit the ground
