{"id":310,"date":"2009-02-02T15:55:43","date_gmt":"2009-02-02T22:55:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/maryrajotte.com\/blog\/?p=310"},"modified":"2009-02-25T09:19:33","modified_gmt":"2009-02-25T16:19:33","slug":"january-reflections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maryrajotte.com\/blog\/2009\/02\/02\/january-reflections\/","title":{"rendered":"January Reflections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/maryrajotte.com\/blog\/wp-content\/images\/postphotos\/januaryreflections.gif\" border=\"0\" alt=\"January Reflections\" title=\"January Reflections\" hspace=\"5\" width=\"250\" height=\"237\" align=\"right\" \/>Instead of simply writing when the mood strikes, I made a decision that in 2009, I would take my fiction writing more seriously, treating it as much as a business as I do my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.outstandingink.com\" target=\"_blank\">freelancing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p> And while I was not as accomplished this January as some of my <a href=\"http:\/\/fright-fest.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">favorite<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/aaronpolson.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">writerly people<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/barrynapierwriting.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">I like<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/writtenbysin.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">to watch<\/a>, I did manage to write 22 days in January.<\/p>\n<p> Here&#39;s what happened:<\/p>\n<p> <u><strong>Works-in-progress<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><a href=\"http:\/\/maryrajotte.com\/blog\/works\/\">The Lockwood Collection<\/a><\/em>: currently pared down to just over 2000 words, working on it as we speak<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/maryrajotte.com\/blog\/works\/\"><em>The Hanging Garden<\/em><\/a>: put on the backburner at 6775 words, I plan to get back to that one when The Lockwood Collection is finished<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> <u><strong>Ideas Brewing for:<\/strong><\/u> <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> Sand: A Journal of Strange Tales<\/li>\n<li>Raw Terror Antho.<\/li>\n<li>Return of the Raven<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> Since most of these stories are being written with specific markets in mind, I really need to get them finished and submitted before the deadlines!<\/p>\n<p> <u><strong>Publications:<\/strong><\/u> <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> Northern Haunts was finally released and so far, I&#39;ve had one person&#39;s feedback. I&#39;m looking forward to more people reading it, and to receiving my bog box o&#39;books that I ordered for my entire family!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> If you&#39;ve read <a href=\"http:\/\/maryrajotte.com\/blog\/2008\/10\/30\/northern-haunts-anthology\/\">Creepy Crawleys<\/a>, please feel free to <a href=\"http:\/\/maryrajotte.com\/blog\/contact\/\">send me a little note<\/a> and let me know what you thought about it.<\/p>\n<p> I imagine my output will be much better this month, as I&#39;ve decided to join an online writing buddy of mine (and a host of other nutters!) in his <a href=\"http:\/\/jamesmelzer.wordpress.com\/2009\/02\/01\/the-february-writing-challenge-begins\/\" target=\"_blank\">February Writing Challenge<\/a>, in which we each try to write at least 1000 words a day, every day, no matter what. If you want to get in on the challenge, join us on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\" target=\"_blank\">Twitter<\/a> and look for the posts tagged with #1kday<\/p>\n<p> I&#39;m looking forward to the challenge! I find I do well with clear-cut goals, like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nanowrimo.org\" target=\"_blank\">NaNoWriMo<\/a>, though I might go a little insane, as I plan to finish\/edit my book next month for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nanoedmo.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">NaNoEdMo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p> But this is what I love. I can&#39;t say that enough &#8211; I LOVE it. I could never see myself doing anything else. And to think &#8211; I stopped writing for like 5 years there.
