\"typewriter\"Man, I really embraced that old adage in December. What started as a routine cleaning at the dentist turned into my having to replace 8 old fillings. Yup…8! And get 2 new teeny ones. I guess I didn’t take care of my teeth very well in middle school (sorry, Mom).<\/p>\n

So after an epic 3 weeks where I was at the dentist so often I told them they should put a little plaque with my name on the chair, and three days in a row of having the old ones replaced (let’s just say those New Year’s Eve margaritas were welcomed with open arms), I can finally breathe easy knowing I don’t have to go back there for a while.<\/p>\n

Side note:<\/strong> When your dentist tells you she’s going to give you a “few drops” of anesthetic, she’s still going to administer it to via a big-assed syringe.<\/p>\n

Double side note:<\/strong> I have a trunked story about a dentist with “questionable practices”. Yeah, I can safely say I won’t be reading that one again for a while.<\/p>\n

Anyway, now that I’ve got a bunch of shiny new chompers, I’m, ready to take a bite out of 2017 (but I promise to floss afterward).<\/p>\n

So, wanna know what I’m up to these days?<\/p>\n

STORIES IN PROGRESS<\/strong>
\nI’m currently finishing up a story for the next HWA Ontario<\/a> anthology<\/strong>. It’ll be done in time. Just hoping I make the cut!<\/p>\n

My next story after that is another short story that I’ve been toiling over for a while. I just haven’t been able to get it right but I’m still working at it.<\/p>\n

2017 WORKS<\/strong>
\nI’ve also planned out my projects for 2017. I was a little ambitious in November, planning to edit a novel, write 2 novellas and then write another novel all this year but I decided to be a little more realistic.<\/p>\n

So, for right now, the 2 big projects on my list for the year are the Reaper book<\/strong>, which I’ll start editing next month, and the Lockwood novella<\/strong>, which I’ll write in the spring.<\/p>\n

I’m using this timeline<\/a> to get these books done, so I’ll see how it plays out. maybe I can squeeze in another project, but I also want to get more new short stories out there so I’m playing it all by ear.<\/p>\n

SPEAKING OF WHICH<\/strong>
\nAs I mentioned above, I’ve hooked up with my local chapter of the HWA<\/a> and I’m pretty stoked to see all the cool things going on!<\/p>\n

This week, they’re having a book launch for the first anthology, GROUP HEX VOL. 1<\/a>, featuring member works. Can’t wait to grab my copy (hopefully with a few author signatures to boot).<\/p>\n

MY SHOP<\/strong>
\nI still want to open up a little shop selling swag with my snazzy skull logo, but I haven’t had time to compare the various options yet. Hopefully I can get it together this month, but I’ll keep you posted.<\/p>\n

A few people have expressed interest in stickers, but I’m hoping to also do mugs, shirts, glasses – and anything else that looks good!<\/p>\n

Any ideas for what you’d like to see my logo on? Give me a shout & let me know!<\/p>\n

THE MIDNIGHT SOCIETY<\/strong>
\nThe HWA Ontario aren’t the only new fiends I’ve made. I was invited to join The Midnight Society<\/a> and I gladly accepted!<\/p>\n

In case you don’t know about the group, it’s a collective of authors writing horror, spec fic, sci-fi, YA, MG, adult and others amazing things – something for everyone!<\/p>\n

There is a group blog where we talk about all these things and more, so head over and check it out!<\/p>\n

I’ll be contributing 2 posts a month, and my first one is already up<\/a>. It’s a fun read (if I do say so myself) and offers some handy tips to slay 2017!<\/p>\n

\nI’m also busy getting ready for a trip to the Dominican Republic<\/strong> in less than 2 weeks. SO EXCITED to get away and enjoy the sand, surf, buffets and a few drinks here & there!<\/p>\n

\nSo, that’s what I’ve got going on these days. Busy, but totally not complaining. I’m doing what I love – not everyone can say that.<\/p>\n
