I almost always have <strong>at least<\/strong> 1 writing project <strong>(if not 2 or 3)<\/strong>, an <strong>editing<\/strong> project while also <strong>outlining\/brainstorming<\/strong> something new. Right now is no different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m finishing a <strong>short story<\/strong>, <strong>revising 2 others<\/strong>, editing chapters of my <strong>serialized novel<\/strong>, editing <strong>my book<\/strong> and also beginning the <strong>planning stages<\/strong> of a new book that I\u2019m going to write next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And yet\u2026I don\u2019t feel like working on anything. Even worse, when I sit down to write, <strong>the words don\u2019t come<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/b55x0VFpFKm7S\/giphy.gif\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A few days, even a week, are usually enough for me to get back into my groove but it\u2019s been longer than that and now I\u2019m trying to figure out <strong>why.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Am I just <strong>struggling <\/strong>with drafting and working toward revision (which is my usual process &#8211; I do much better with words to edit than I do with a bank screen)? Am I <strong>bored<\/strong> with what I\u2019m writing? Or am I just <strong>burnt out<\/strong>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m starting to think it\u2019s the latter. After <strong>4 months<\/strong> of writing\/critiquing\/discussion in one workshop and then an <strong>INTENSE<\/strong> 2 weeks in July where I wrote <strong>7 short stories<\/strong>, I think my well has simply run dry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Which is a bit of a <strong>problem<\/strong> when you\u2019re a writer for a living. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, I\u2019m sort of <strong>conflicted<\/strong>. I know it\u2019s a good thing, to stop, reflect, reboot, replenish one\u2019s creative well. But I still feel that<strong> guilt<\/strong> of not producing, of not working, of all those goals I\u2019ve set, sitting there, expecting to be fulfilled. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maybe this has come at a good time, though. Summer is shifting into autumn, my favorite time of year. What better time to stop, look around, see things shift and change around me, to give my work <strong>new life<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/UxTZDNv0Zej4s\/giphy.gif\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>That doesn\u2019t mean I won\u2019t still feel guilty, though. Such is the life of a creative soul, I guess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you ever feel that way?
