It\u2019s no secret that I love oracle cards, so I thought it would be fun to create one inspired by a fascinating piece of folklore that appears in my book, The Bone Key<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Omens of the Black Witch Moth<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Maybe it\u2019s their resemblance to bats, or their erratic flightpath that some associate with supernatural forces. But the black witch moth has become a symbol of omens, folklore, and superstition in Latin America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This intriguing moth species has been called the \u201cnight witch\u201d, and its coloring may have something to do with it. Maybe it’s their distinctive coloring, or the way their shimmering purple bands give off an ethereal glow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Sightings of the black witch moth, or the “mariposa de la muerte”, as it\u2019s known in Mexico, are sometimes seen as a prophecy, with the creatures being seen as lost souls returning to the land of the living. They\u2019ve also gained the reputation of being \u201cnight witches\u2019 who take the form of these moths to fly between the worlds of the living and dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seeing one is also believed to be a bad omen or a harbinger of impending death. Whether spotted in Central America, the southern United States or Mexico, these fascinating moths continue to inspire intrigue and whispers of hidden messages waiting to be revealed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An Omens Oracle Card Spread<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Clear your mind and shuffle your deck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
