{"id":9763,"date":"2025-10-14T12:00:16","date_gmt":"2025-10-14T16:00:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/maryrajotte.com\/blog\/?p=9763"},"modified":"2025-10-14T12:00:18","modified_gmt":"2025-10-14T16:00:18","slug":"the-weekly-brew-fresh-eyes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maryrajotte.com\/blog\/2025\/10\/14\/the-weekly-brew-fresh-eyes\/","title":{"rendered":"THE WEEKLY BREW: Fresh Eyes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>It\u2019s time for some fresh eyes &#8211; and no\u2026I\u2019m not talking about something creepy for Halloween!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As you might know from my previous posts, I\u2019ve been working on a <strong>folk horror novella<\/strong>. I spent time brainstorming, outlining, and I started drafting it last month. But\u2026I\u2019ve only made it to <strong>Chapter 4<\/strong>. I don\u2019t feel excited to work on it. In fact\u2026<strong>I haven\u2019t touched it since mid-September<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Which made me realize\u2026I need to rework my plot. There wasn\u2019t enough horror in my folk horror. Not a good place to be!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, I decided to start over. Not necessarily changing much of the plot. But I need to bring in more of the horror, and the folk horror &#8211; to this book. I mean, if that\u2019s what I\u2019m calling it, readers are going to expect the scary, the spooky, the unsettling\u2026and the weirdness!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I took some time over the weekend and I\u2019ve got a few new ideas to add to the mix. I\u2019m going to keep going this week, and hopefully I\u2019ll have my new ideas shored up by Friday. Then, I want to use next week to rework my outline (ugh,\u2026I don\u2019t want to, especially after how long I spent working out the beats for every chapter). My goal is to have it all done and ready to go come November 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I know\u2026 that <strong>Novel Writing Organization That Shall Not Be Named<\/strong> is dead and gone, but I still love the energy and intention of getting a big chunk written in November, so I\u2019m going to do just that! I also hope to sneak in more brainstorming &amp; outlining the 2nd novella idea in November. It\u2019s whispering to me from the shadows\u2026which is a dangerous thing, because I\u2019m trying not to get my ideas jumbled together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though it sounds like a lot of work, I love this part! Brainstorming is my jam! And like any good plotter\/planner, I love a robust outline. So I\u2019m in my happy place with these two projects.
