{"id":99,"date":"2008-02-21T13:09:54","date_gmt":"2008-02-21T20:09:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/maryrajotte.com\/blog\/2008\/02\/21\/roadmap-to-success\/"},"modified":"2008-02-25T13:12:49","modified_gmt":"2008-02-25T20:12:49","slug":"roadmap-to-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maryrajotte.com\/blog\/2008\/02\/21\/roadmap-to-success\/","title":{"rendered":"Roadmap to Success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So, according to an article in the Nov. 2007 issue of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.writermag.com\/wrt\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Writer<\/a>, I&#39;m an easily-distracted perfectionist who is afraid of commitment.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/maryrajotte.com\/blog\/wp-content\/images\/postphotos\/timer.gif\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Timer\" title=\"Timer\" width=\"250\" height=\"191\" align=\"right\" \/>Which means that although I am never at a loss for great ideas, I tend to take a while to settle on which idea I want to work on first. Once I do finally decide, I continue to be distracted by my other ideas, losing interest in the actual writing of the one at hand much too quickly.<\/p>\n<p>If I am able to, in fact, keep my butt in the chair long enough to dash down a few lines, I end up obsessing over each sentence, word and punctuation mark until I have rewritten, and rewritten, and rewritten them over and over again.<\/p>\n<p>So, how do I overcome these dreaded afflictions, you ask?<\/p>\n<p>It calls for a strict set of deadlines, within which I should charge myself to write that shitty first draft (just to get the words out onto the page already!), and deal with the atrociousness of it all <strong><em>only after<\/em><\/strong> I&#39;ve heard the bell chime on my diligently-set egg timer, which signifies that I have, for once, finished what I started and am now allowed to treat myself by working on one of those other brilliant ideas I&#39;ve been waxing nostalgic over.<\/p>\n<p>Sounds doable&#8230;..right?!&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So, according to an article in the Nov. 2007 issue of The Writer, I&#39;m an easily-distracted perfectionist who is afraid of commitment.
