Camp NaNo, Campaigns and Ko-Fi

ON CAMP NANOWRIMO

So, my first week of Camp was a little slow. I’m just over 1000 words behind my targeted goal of 20K total (666 words per day \m/).

One of the problems I’ve run into is not being prepared. I know – SHOCKER! 🙂

But since this is the 3rd incarnation of this serial I’ve tried to outline (at least), a lot of my notes, upon further look, seem to be from one of the old plotlines (aka there was a different antagonist before this one).

So, in trying to wrangle various notes in notebooks, in Excel, in Scrivener etc. – things a re little messy!

For the most part, the plot is planned. I’ve just realized I needed a better motivation for the antagonist, so I’m doing a little work on that behind-the-scenes as I write. Not exactly my favorite way of working, but it’s better now than later, when I’ve written half a book already.

ON MY PATREON CAMPAIGN

In writing this serial, my goal to start posting sneak peeks at Sorority Screams to my Patreon page is growing nearer. But…I have a bit of a dilemma.

One thing about the Patreon contract that isn’t exactly great:
“By posting content to Patreon you grant us a royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive, sublicensable, worldwide license to use, reproduce, distribute, perform, publicly display or prepare derivative works of your content.

So, yeah…if I were just sticking with blog posts, behind-the-scenes info on my stories or how I come up with them, this wouldn’t bother me much. But does this mean, if I start posting my serial, that Patreon can ‘prepare derivative works’ of my serial?

KO-FI OR DIY?

Back when I took a break from Patreon, I considered setting up my own system on my blog with Paypal payments and password-protected content.

Because everyone takes a fee. With Patreon, there are payment processing fees, the cut Patreon gets from every patron I have, and then when I withdraw the money from my Paypal account (which is how Patreon pays me, there is an additional fee).

Another option is Ko-Fi. The perks there? I can set-up the same rewards and perks; offer exclusive content (with a paid account); people can pay for monthly perks or even offer a one-time donation.

I do actually have a Ko-Fi account set up. I might start posting content there too to see whether people are more inclined to use Ko-Fi over Patreon.

So, I’m still debating what I want to do. For now, I’ll keep both accounts. If you can contribute monthly, hit up my Patreon for perks starting at $1. If you can’t afford that but want to “buy me a coffee” with a one-time donation, head over to my Ko-Fi page.

And if you can afford neither, I’d love for you to share my pages or this post with anyone you know who would love to read my nightmarish tales! I truly appreciate any and all support!
