THE WEEKLY BREW: June 30, 2025

Lots of good things happened last week in the Writing Nook.

A teaser image of The Hexford Lore, a with-inspired fictional newsletter.

The Hexford Lore

I finished the first issue of The Hexford Lore, my fictional witchy-town newspaper. I’ve added the digital edition to my Patreon for all $2+ supporters, going live tomorrow on Canada Day. $3+ gets you the printed copy! There are also free trials for all tiers!

News From The Writing Nook – Q2

I also sent out the latest issue of my newsletter, including an interview with Michelle Tang, who shares some insight into her writing process and her new book DuMort, coming in July from Ghost Orchid Press.

Novella Progress

The Zero Draft of the folk horror novella is pretty much done. I’m going to spend the next week going through it to fix any holes/fill in plot points, do any research, and make sure all my characters and settings for each chapter are shored up. Then – writing begins! I’m excited to get started – partly because I have a couple of other folk horror novellas I want to outline!

Hope everyone’s well – and Happy Canada Day to my fellow Canadians!

(P.S. How is it already July tomorrow?!)

Other Goodies

I’m putting the final touches on the special item related to The Bone Key, so that should be going out to my newsletter subscribers soon. I’m also sharing a new behind-the-scenes post related to one of my stories in the new monthly column on my Patreon called, My Gothic Grimoire. That should go up later today.

My Goals This Week

  • Finish the final work on the novella Zero Draft
  • Finish The Bone Key freebie
  • Enjoy Canada Day – by doing NO WORK!

What Are Your Goals?
