As I work on my new folk horror novella, there’s a line that’s stuck with me the more I write…

“Together, we all nurture the hive.”

It has become the village motto, something that’s supposed to bring the villagers together. But for the young woman at the center of this story—it begins to feel like a warning. Because what happens when the hive turns on you?

When you realize you were never one of them…you’re the threat they’re trying to contain?
