THE WEEKLY BREW: Shift+Ctrl
If you’ve been reading my updates, you know I’ve been struggling with finishing the last few stories of my collection. According to my meticulous plan (LOL!), I intended to self-publish it by the end of May. That obviously isn’t going to happen. So, I’ve decided to shift focus and move it to the fall slot of my schedule, which I’d intended to use for the 2nd volume of my collection.
Yeah, I’m disappointed. Yeah, it sucks. But I feel all this pressure (yes, again…self-imposed) because I’m behind schedule. And if I were to stay on this schedule, it would also push the novella as well. This way, I still keep to the novella’s schedule, the first stage of which (writing) runs from April to early July.
The good thing is I’m still working on the formatting for the collection, so once that’s done, that’s a big thing checked off my to-do list. That doesn’t mean there won’t be hiccups (it took me a day to get the table of contents to auto-generate!), but it’s a fun project!
I also like that all of this is in my control. Because I know I’m not the only author tired of waiting…waiting…waiting…
I’ve done enough of that!
The other good news is this frees me up to work on the novella. As I said above, I’d scheduled to start writing it in April, so though I’m still adding the new plot points to my outline, I feel pretty good about it.
Sometimes we have to shift things around, but in my mind, as long as I’m still striving for my goals, these little setbacks aren’t the end of the world.
