MY GOTHIC GRIMOIRE: Feeling The Cottagegore Vibes
My Gothic Grimoire is where I reveal the hidden secrets and dark inspirations behind my storytelling.
First, there was Like Flies To Honey. Then…Let This Be Thy Medicine. Now, I’m continuing to explore the dark cottagegore vibes in my latest novella.
Where The Seeds Began
I view the stories I mentioned above as taking place in the same world. Even though they’re set in different time periods, I took some of the same inspiration to create both. Ritual. Superstition. The hive mind. I can’t stop thinking about it. So…I’m continuing the story, exploring it in a new way while still being inspired by the foundation of these two stories.
How Do You Claim Your Rightful Place When The World Was Built To Oppress You?
This is a thread that came to me when I started working on my new novella. One that took over my thoughts. It’s something that shaped my main character. A question I’ve explored in many of my stories.
It’s also what led me to arcane rituals…to whispers concealed on the wind…to names long-forgotten. To a time long ago where a young woman fights chauvinism and oppressive forces to dig up the truth no one wants her to uncover.
About Those Cottagegore Vibes
In case you’ve never heard of it, Cottagegore is the darker sister-genre to Cottagecore. The latter focuses on the more romanticized version of rural life. Think a fairy-tale-like atmosphere with baking, farming and campfires at night. Cottagegore is decidedly darker, with death and decay, deep forests, and the terrifying things that lurk within them (and within the characters themselves).
It’s no surprise I’d go for the one with the darker vibes! There is definitely an element of the unsettling, the eerie, the moldering…and of course, the Gothic. All things I can’t get enough of. And things I hope you want to explore with me!
