Over & Out
NaNoWriMo is done and over for another year. Here’s what happened:
I wrote: 59,286 words
My total manuscript stands at: 86,932 words
On my best day, I wrote: 6,033 words
I had an outline, and stuck to it for the most part – except for when I didn’t 🙂
I originally outlined this book back in 2009, when I made my first attempt at writing it. As I got further into the month, different scenes popped up according to what made more sense (or what my characters thought made more sense, really). Others, I dropped because they just didn’t fit the direction I was going anymore.
I know some of the things I’m going to have to fix during the edit – family history that needs to be sorted out; the chronological (and logical) progression of research my character will have to do; naming some characters (Mr. X just won’t cut it, I think); maybe cutting one character or adding another; deciding whether having 2 POV characters is really necessary.
And that’s just what I can think of off the top of my head.
So, what’s next? Taking a break in December…from novel writing, at least. I have 3 short stories I want to write. Then in the New Year, I’ll start editing. I have 2 finished novels to edit and 1 to write the ending to (before I edit that). Not sure which will come first, and I can’t believe I’m thinking about the New Year already but if you know me, you know that I am (and have been for a few months now).
I want to finish all 3 next year, plus write a novella, and some other projects I won’t get into yet. I have to be a little mysterious.
Maybe I should ask for a clone for Christmas.
