Time flies when you’ve got your head down, working on multiple obsessions!

Yes, I admit it, I’m obsessed with writing. Obsessed with finishing this book, with drafting the next, with getting my collection into the hands of readers. I have to be obsessed! Who else other than writers/artists spend countless hours dedicated to something that may or may not ever see the light of day?

Some days are hard. It feels like everyone else is getting agents and book deals and seeing their book on “Must Read” lists. And the dream that one day, it’ll be my turn…it keeps me going.

Because other days are REALLY good. When someone you don’t know posts about your book. Or you get really good feedback from a friend. When the ideas just flow…or you just get SO EXCITED about what you’re working on.

Which, I am! I feel like I’ve finally gotten into a good workflow, keeping my goals achievable and finding a way to make progress on them. I’ve got a lot I want to accomplish in May, but first, let’s check in with my April goals to see how I did.

WRITE: Folk Horror Novella

I finally finished updating my outline/scene cards and even did a little drafting.

CREATE: Short Story Collection

The initial design for interior formatting is set up. I decided to wait to do the rest until I start adding content, in case things change. I’ve also commissioned some artwork, which I’ll share more about later.

QUERY: Owl Witches Book 2

The query letter is pretty much done. The synopsis? Not so much. It’s WAY too long, so I’ll be polishing that this month, as well as going over the list of agents I have going to see who would be a good fit, and who’s currently open to queries.

All of my goals are ongoing for the rest of the quarter, but I’m at a different stage with each now which means…progress!

WRITE: Folk Horror Novella

I’ve set aside the next 2 months or so to write Draft 1. I’m SO EXCITED to get back to it! I came up with some amazing new details to amp up the weird folk horror vibes! The plot is pretty much the same, so I hope I can get a good chunk written before my next college course begins in a few weeks.

CREATE: Short Story Collection

I think I’ll get a head start on the cover design and marketing campaign this month. Technically, I have this scheduled for the fall, but spending even a few days getting the bare bones down will help me in the long-run.

QUERY: Owl Witches Book 2

IT’S TIME. It took me a lot longer than I hoped to get to this point, but it is what it is. I’m proud of this book and for finishing it. Now, fingers crossed, I find the perfect agent to help champion it!
