Worth Your While
I finally finished my proofreading class! FREEDOM!
Seriously…this one was a lot of work. SO MANY readings. SO MANY assignments. Then…the dreaded final exam: a 30-question multiple choice quiz & then we had to edit/proofread a 3-page Word doc article. I took the entire three hours allotted to make sure I did as well as possible.
Even though all of our instruction has been geared toward non-fiction, I really enjoyed it! I actually like the process of fine-tuning. And it doesn’t tax my brain the same way revising fiction does. I plan to add it as an option on my freelance site (which I still need to finish!).
The thing that sucks? Looking around for freelance gigs for proofreading/copyediting/copywriting and so many of them including AI in some form. So…potentially not great for my prospects.
I actually did a lot of work for quite a few years writing various types of copy for small indie businesses and artisans. Crafters, creators etc. Freelancing fits well into my schedule, so I do hope there are people out there looking to hire real writers and not just use AI. We’ll see!
Now that my class is over and the next one doesn’t start for a month, I have time to write! Back to the folk horror novella! I’ve been itching to dive in again. I really want to take advantage of this school break and make a big dent in it. It’s been a bit of a break, so I need to read over my old notes and refresh my memory of new brainstorms/work them into my outline. Putting all the puzzle pieces together. I love this part!
I also have new approach I’ve been thinking about for all of my social media/marketing/Patreon posts. I need to get it all in line and then get back to regular posts. I think I was spreading myself too thin with too many tangents, which isn’t sustainable. I want to make it fun for those of you reading, and something I’m excited to do. I want to make it worth it for those of you who continue to support me. I’ll keep you updated!
