Scenes From A Book Signing
I had my first author signing this past weekend at Little Ghosts Books in Toronto!

I was only a little nervous about it, and it was actually pretty good! To be honest…I only sold 2 copies. This was a signing, not a book launch, since my book has been out for over a month. But I’m not upset about it. For me, this was more of an opportunity to meet some local readers and get my name out there to new people.

The coolest thing was just as I finished setting up, a young woman came in – and said she’d seen my event on Little Ghosts Instagram – and was there specifically for my book! How cool is that?! I don’t know her, so that was a really great thing, both to break the ice, and as part of my goal.
A new friend from one of my Discords came by as well (hi Ria!!), so that was nice! We chatted and laughed and had a great time.

I know 2 books isn’t a lot, but I also handed out about 20 free mini zines with a short story, puzzle, poem & sticker inside. I think everyone should have something small and free to give to potential readers, especially for those unfamiliar with your work. There was actually a decent amount of foot traffic, and I get that people coming in to shop might not be inclined to by a book from an unknown author just because she’s in the shop signing. So, even though I would have loved to have directly sold more, my book is now in stock at Little Ghosts, a dream of mine to see my book in a store! So, I really can’t complain.

Looking forward to my next event! Not sure when that will be, but now that I’ve got one under my belt, I think the nerves will be even less the next time.
