Book-Shaped Hole
I wanted to be drafting by now. But I’m still working on adding new plot details to the folk horror novella. I’d already drafted the first 8 chapters, so even though my intention was to just go in and add the new details, it turned into me revising-as-I-go.
I like to do this, mind you. I like having a clean chapter by the end of the draft instead of notes like “make this better” or [RESEARCH THIS!]. It makes that first round of revisions go much smoother. But it does take a lot longer.
When I finished my last editing course, I was like “YES! Finally! A month of uninterrupted writing time!”. But, as always, I’m down to my last week before course studies ramp up again.
All I can go is keep plugging away. The good news? The query letter & synopsis for The Bone Key sequel is almost ready. So, once I get that off my plate, querying the sequel becomes my side project. Then I can spend most of my time drafting the novella.
But why does my brain immediately whisper to me that I can fill that book-shaped hole in my schedule by starting to outline another new book???
And why is my novella now turning into something novel-length??
Sometimes, the heart wants what it wants! Who am I to deny my Muse??
