Neurotic for One’s Own Good

So, I've been reading this book called Writing From The Inside Out.  One of the passages stuck with me:

The true love of something comes from the doing of it, not from its more obvious fruits.

I am the first one to admit that I have suffered from "divine inspiration syndrome".  Often wishing for, dreaming of, and going on endlessly about waiting for ideas to magically appear for me.

It's time I started thinking realistically. I need to practice, learn, research, experiment.

The next chapter is about the Buddy System, how every writer should have a buddy who, to put it simply, gets it. And gets you. A long-term, ongoing relationship with that one intellectual, emotional, creative soul-mate.

Someone who knows, and can not only tolerate but understand, your sensitivities, fragility, temperament, the nuances when it comes to your writing – and who will give you a firm kick in the butt when you get too melodramatic or neurotic for your own good.
