I’m a Brat!
Last night, Chris was late, I hadn' t heard from him, he wasn't answering his cellphone, dinner was getting cold, and I had spent all afternoon making and decorating chocolate cupcakes.
So, when he finally called me back at 9:30 and said he was driving someone home and would be another half hour, I hung up the phone, grumbled under my breath and decided to eat without him.
He called me back a little while after to see if there was anything he needed to pick up, and – I admit it – I was a brat! I was crabby for having to wait, for him not calling (even if it was just to tell me he'd be late), and was snotty on the phone.
He must have had a good laugh about it as he made his way home. You'll find out why in a second…
So, when he finally walked in, he started talking about my birthday, and how the things I'd put on my birthday list were lame. He noticed a lot of stationery and bags and how they weren't very exciting gifts.
"THAT is an exciting birthday present," he said, pointing to a bag on the coffee table. After hemming and hawing about how I should wait until my real birthday (Sunday), I opened it up – and found a laptop!
It is a running joke in our house. Every birthday & Christmas when he asks me what I want, I always say a laptop. Years ago, I bought a used Toshiba out of the back of CanadaComputes. I think I paid $200. It was SO not worth it. I think it weighed 20 pounds. I think it was running on Windows 3.1, and the only program it had was Word – and even that was irritatingly s-l-o-w! I swear, I was probably better off with my old Commodore 64 . At least I could play Loderunner.
Anyway – I am ecstatic over, in love with, grateful for, and itching to play with my new toy!!!! The only downfall is I have actual WORK to do, and tomorrow we will be out all day buying the last of our supplies for our camping trip this weekend. We found some websites with resorts in the town we will be staying. I’m talking DJs & dance parties on the beach – who knew it was such a party place?!
Sunday, I’m hoping for sushi and then dessert with my sister (whose birthday is on Friday) at Just Desserts. Yay for summer birthdays!
