Hypnotic Cacophony
Last night was the Skinny Puppy show. Nothing like some blisteringly cacophonous industrial and a hypnotic light show to make you feel alive! At times, I could literally feel the bass in my bones. It reminded me of the remake of The Italian Job where Seth Green's character says he wants to buy a stereo with speakers so loud, they blow women's clothes off. Well last night, the band was not far off, because I could feel the thumping bass line reverberating in my clothes.
It also brought me back to high school. I took the Writer's Craft OAC course, and our Independent Study project was to study 2 books – either by one author or in one style, and then, amongst various other assignments, to write a piece in the same style. I was fully into Anne Rice then, so of course, I wrote a story about vampires. Well, we were also required to read the story to the class, and we were allowed to do pretty much any kind of presentation we wanted to highlight our stories. So, I pulled out my copy of Skinny Puppy's Last Rights, put on Track 10 – Download – and started it at approximately the 5:24min mark.
I have to laugh at that now! I can't imagine what my classmates and my teacher thought of me (but then again, I had purple hair then, too, and I wore garters with thigh-high fishnet tights to school). Either way, the song totally gave me the apocalyptic feeling I wanted, and I think it was pretty cool that I was able to do that in school! Needless to say, that class was my favorite one in high school.
Ah, memories!
