The End Is Nigh

OutliningIt's sunny and gorgeous outside today. I have all the windows wide-open, and every now and then cool breaths of air come wafting in.

As a writing day, today has been a very good day. I started the day by planning out the remaining schedule for working on my outline. The end is in sight now, and I now have something to strive for rather than just working (maybe over-working?) my planning.

I am sort of writing this book backwards. I had the basic idea in my head for a while, started researching it last summer, and did a basic outline just prior to NaNoWriMo. Once November arrived, I had to get writing, so I abandoned my outline and wrote 50,117 in a month.

I pretty much ran through my entire outline by the end of the month, and basically abandoned the project over the holidays. I'd been working on it sporadically again over the past few months, and finally made a commitment to myself to work on it everyday so I can finally finish it and get back to the writing.

I don't feel like I am slacking, though. I am really pleased with this method, as there have been multiple instances where I've realized I just solved a problem or roadblock that I wouldn't have hit until I was actually writing it – and if you're a writer, you know how frustrating that can be. It can derail your entire project. So, I am happy with how things are going, and having a deadline now to finish it makes me that much more excited to get back to the story.

I have to say that FD30D has helped me tremendously – it really is like having the first draft of your novel completed by the time to get to the end of it.
