WIP Wednesday: Sprints & Splurges

Thanks to some fantastic feedback on my latest WIPs, I’ve edited 1 piece and have another to tackle. Hoping to submit the latter this week and the former next week perhaps.
The word sprints? Keeps me on my toes. LSBXE has both a countdown timer and a “word count accomplishment bell”.
One of the years I did NaNoWriMo, I was part of the Word War team. Nothing like a little friendly rivalry to up your word count. Only this time, my rival is me! The slacker me, that is, who wants nothing more than to watch reruns of Supernatural and the Twilight Zone than sit at my desk.
I find that when starting a new piece, sometimes I need to just power through the first draft instead of sitting there and sweating over every little decision. Sometimes, you just gotta purge. THEN, I can splurge!
I’ll be Peggy Bundy with my box of bon-bons – after I hit my word count for the day π
Do you use any tricks to keep you on your toes when it comes to your writing? Any little rewards you give yourself when you finish that latest WIP?

I love the idea of word sprints–I have to power through first drafts. Partly because I don’t know how to stop myself sometimes, and partly because if I stop and think too hard… I’ll never get anywhere at all.
Hm. I could use some bon bons too.
Exactly! It’s been really helpful, actually. Keeps me from sitting there and fretting over every word.
Bon-bons for everyone! I’ll take some Lindt. I’m not fancy π
I’m more power down than power through at the moment π
Sounds like Miss Write might have to bust out her trusty ruler… π
Great picture. Now I want a nap.
That’s cool. If you had said you wanted a red beehive and a pair of leopard-print hot pants, I would have looked at you funny, pointed & laughed.
