Slow & Unsteady
As I mentioned a few days ago, I’ve gotten off to a slow start with the Million Word Challenge. It’s a daunting task sitting in front of me but this is one of those times when I’m going to try not to be overly critical of myself on the days i don’t hit my word count (while still making sure I keep the goal in mind and do strive to hit those word counts regardless).
Right now, I’m in the outlining phase of a bunch of stories. I know my word count will pick up when I start writing. But it’s also hard to see those 0-word days and not feel like I’m already failing only 4 days in.
I already have a pretty detailed outlining process in place, but this year I’m going to try to loosen the restraints a little and allow more discovery in my writing process instead of planning every little thing down to the color of the wallpaper (not that I do that, but you get the gist of it).
That’s right, folks. You heard it here first! This card-carrying Plotter is going to channel her inner Pantser and see how things go. Who knows? Maybe it’s a step I need to take, to get my writing to the next level (or at least write a million words this year!). Wish me luck!
So, what about you? Are you a Plotter or a Pantser? A combination of the two? None of the above?
