October Mid-Month Check-In

Since I started using a worksheet to track my monthly goals, it has really helped to keep me on target.

I added a mid-month and end-of-month section to keep me motivated and since I already post my monthly goals here, I thought it might be cool to keep you updated on how things are going so far.

My three main goals for October:

  • Finish and submit serial killer story
  • Expand and finish folk horror story
  • Work on outline for my next novel

SERIAL KILLAH

So far, I’ve finished and submitted that serial killer story. The first draft of that story took shape on Richard Thomas’s Short Story Mechanics class with some fine-tuning in his Advanced Creative Writing Workshop.

It’s a bit of a different beast than when I started but I really love how it turned out. I’ll let you know when I hear anything about getting it picked up by a publisher.

GETTING FOLKSY

I literally just finished that story last night, I’m on to the next one already.

This is another story that started in Richard’s classes, this time in his flash fiction class, Keep It Brief, on LitReactor.

My task now is to look at how I want to expand it from flash to a full story and then flesh it out. My goal is to have it done by the end of October or early November.

FILLING IN THE GAPS

Outlining for my book isn’t as far along as I would have liked, but I’ve had a lot of freelance work this past month.

I have done some work on the new book, though, and I’m gathering research material and brainstorming a lot.

I’m working on characters and setting right now, with a general idea of how the plot will play out. I have 2 1/2 months left to get my idea solidified before Novel In A Year 2020 starts. EEP!

TICKING BOXES

So, I’ve been able to tick quite a few boxes on my monthly goals worksheet but there are still a few to go.

If you want to grab your own worksheet, I’ll be adding it to my Etsy shop, both one-sided and double sided, later this week. Follow Miss Write on Instagram or Twitter to find out when it’s live in the shop.
