ALTERED WORDS: A Befouling

In case you are new to these posts, Altered Words is my take on blackout poetry, where I take a story, poem, or other literary work and try to “find” a poem within by simply crossing out the words I do not want to include in my piece.

This month’s poem comes from my story The Wretched, featured in Issue 5 of Frightmarish Zine.

A BEFOULING

Lapping torches,

steadfast and hungry,

blazed high,

spite-fuelled and

edging closer with

their loathing.

The mob, like

sickly animals,

bared their teeth,

a befouling hatred,

noose-like in the night.

Have you ever created blackout poetry? If you have a copy of Frightmarish Zine, I invite you to create your own poem from The Wretched! Feel free to post it here and share it with everyone!
