ALTERED WORDS: In Stark Focus

In case you are new to these posts, Altered Words is my take on blackout poetry, where I take a story, poem, or other literary work and try to “find” a poem within by simply crossing out the words I do not want to include in my piece.
This month’s poem comes from my story I Am What Grows in Shadowed Places, originally published in 99 Tiny Terrors and featured in Issue 6 of Frightmarish Zine.

IN STARK FOCUS
The past, forgotten,
Exposes remnants of
Their righteousness. Their evil
Roots in damp earth, tendrils
From the darkness, What they buried
stays whisper thin in the air,
Uncovered in stark focus.
